ridiculed for his eternal traveling by train and motor-car (they
called him bald hie, bald da – here today, there tomorrow).
Franz Joseph, on the other hand, rarely traveled just for the fun
of it. However, when he took a trip to the country for his beloved
hunting, it is said that he was usually in high spirits. As soon as the
train stopped at its final destination, "the emperor nimbly leaves the
Court Salon Carriage … and smiling, perhaps in anticipation of the
joys of the hunt, he approaches the local dignitaries who greet him
reverentially."
